The Borderland Chapter 6 -- How I met the Mormons

“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened.” Rev. 20

I first met the Mormons in 1982, as the culmination of a remarkable chain of events.

It all started when I was living in Holland and met Vera, a healer and psychic, who asked my partner and I to drive her large station wagon to Switzerland. Her destination was the beautiful Alpine town of Interlaken in the Bernese Oberland region for a 10-day Seminar with an American Professor who I later got to know well as Dr. J.J. Hurtak of the Academy for Future Science (AFFS), author of The Book of Knowledge: Keys of Enoch.¹

Vera needed someone to drive her vehicle for her. In exchange for this, we would also get to attend the AFFS Seminar, a unique experience, with Dr. Hurtak typically lecturing in English from 8am to 8pm with simultaneous German translation, deep diving into the frontiers of science and religion, contact with Higher Intelligence, Prophetic Scriptures, and the Keys of Enoch itself, a monumental work based on 64 Keys to spiritual-scientific teaching that Hurtak received during an experience with two angelic beings that he described as ‘Teachers of universal intelligence’, “Enoch” and “Metatron.”

The Seminar included many readings of Biblical texts as keys to understanding, and as I didnt have a Bible at that time, I asked Dr. Hurtak which Bible version he would recommend. He mentioned the Mormon Church, so when we got back to Holland we contacted the LDS and asked if we could obtain a Bible from them.

Of course they were happy to provide us with a Bible, and I remember driving to Hilversum and meeting with the missionaries of the Holland/Belgium mission and having some interesting conversations though I don’t recall the details now. I do know that it impressed me deeply.

Back in Katwijk, our home town on the coast of South Holland, we awaited our first visit from the Morman missionaries. They arrived on bikes, two young idealistic young men eager to meet us and find out why we were so interested in the Mormons. We talked about the Seminar and the Keys of Enoch, and as they asked to see it, we obliged. Opening it at random, they turned to a section in Key 105 which contains the text:

“The harmonics of Light will reveal the ancient lands of the Nephites in the Americas”

and a map of North America superimposed with the image of a dove descending. Elder Mark Linford nearly fell off his chair. The map, titled ‘The Return of the Dove’, also contains the legend “Areas of the Nephites to be activated.”
